Today’s theme is the four major segments of breakbulk shipping company business:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are;
Preparation of vessels
Canvassing cargoes
Cargo operation
Vessel operation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The above four are the basic operations of break bulk shipping companies.
Now, let\u2019s explain to you one by one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first segment is Preparation of vessels. In order to transport cargoes, you must prepare a vessel first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are three ways to prepare vessels as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prepare a vessel by building up a new ship is called Shipbuilding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prepare a vessel by buying a used vessel is called Purchasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prepare a vessel by renting a vessel is called Chartering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second segment is Canvassing cargoes. Canvassing cargo is to collect a lot of cargo that can be transported by car carriers or conventional ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


If the manufacturer is exporting their products by themselves, your sales team would go to the manufacturer directly to promote the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the trading company is trading the products, your sales team would go to the trading company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the forwarder consistently undertakes inland transportations, custom clearances, sea transportations, installations, etc., your sales team would go to the forwarder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third segment is Cargo operation, that is to allocate all canvassed or prospect cargoes to vessels efficiently in terms of vessel-space-wise and schedule-wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fourth segment is vessel operation. Vessel operations is the process of management of a vessel’s voyages. Operation staff instruct Captains, Port agents and receive their reports everyday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four segments which I’ve talked about are important factors to determine profit or loss of each vessel voyage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these segments, Vessel operation plays an important role and can decide ultimate profit or loss, so this job needs good care until completion of the voyage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s summary is;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparation of the vessel consists of 3 kinds. 1st is Ship-building, 2nd<\/sup> is Purchasing used vessels, 3rd<\/sup> is Chartering vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canvassing cargo is to collect cargo that can be loaded into conventional ships and car carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cargo operation is to allocate, distribute, adjust cargoes to vessels and fix vessels schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
